Design Statement

The exhibition I curated is a contemporary sculpture art exhibition. I selected three works for the exhibition. In the process of curating this exhibition, I hope that people can reflect on the harm caused by nuclear war, and what we should and should not do in the future. I decided to consider people as an important part of this exhibition hall. We should also take people into consideration during the design process. I hope that the interaction between people and this exhibition hall can become the fourth exhibit. People just need to see how they do it, and also need to see how others do it, so that people can reflect on what we really need and what we don’t need. So the core concept of my planning of this exhibition hall is to treat the interaction between people and the exhibition hall as an exhibit.

Exhibits:

Exhibit 1: Nowadays

An abstract skateboard park. This skateboard park allows us to experience the hardness and softness of modern society. It is made of reinforced concrete of modern society, with soft curves. I think this artwork expresses the flexibility and stability of our society, including our current tolerance of the LGBTQ+ community, and our current stability in education and medical care.

Exhibit 2: During the war

For the second artwork, I abstracted the war into a posture of looking down from a high position. After all, we ordinary people are innocent, so I think war should not be oppressed by ordinary people. The core of the sarcasm is the leaders at the top. They determine the people’s thoughts, change the ideology of the masses, inspire nationalism, and provoke class confrontation. So I put large glass cubes on the top of the pillars, and the thin pillars supporting them are ordinary people. The material I chose is stainless steel that can reflect all light like a mirror. I hope that this artwork can make ordinary people like us reflect on why we start wars. It is not for ourselves, but for the upper power class. However, the power class does not have the support of ordinary people, that is, glass slag.

Exhibit 3: In the future

The third artwork is wood. I think we cannot have too much hope in human society. People are sinister, and the mistakes made by human society are constantly, repeatedly, and with great similarity. We really cannot have too much hope for the correction of these mistakes, because we are all human beings, and as humans we have a human heart, and mistakes will eventually be repeated.
